The times we live in have normalized sickness. It is normal to have chronic ailments like diabetes, and cholesterol, while cancer has become a trend. Every other member in a family has some or the other form of cancer. What we earn over the years, is spent on what we lose while we are busy earning- our health. But what does God have to say about our health?
I wrote last about Dani papa- how he went to be with the Lord without a single tube hanging out from his body, and yet there are others who consider old age to be synonymous with death and decay!
The general belief is that the more we age, the more our cells die and decay until we become one repugnant mass of mere bones, no flesh. Right? Wrong!!!
Grow old and die- the lie of life!
I couldn’t stress enough how far such a belief is removed from the Word of God. The bible tells us that even if youths fall and faint, those who trust in the Lord renew their strength! They soar on wings like eagles; they walk and do not get weary; they run and are not faint! (Isaiah 40:30-31) Hurray! There’s hope for you, child of God. Whoever has been feeding you lies about your health and unavoidable decay- tell them this—I will soar like an eagle! My God renews my strength! I have my health and healing in Jesus!
It drives me to complete exasperation when I see believers count something small as ‘symptoms’ of flu to be their COVID-bell! Why are our hearts so afraid? Have we not known, have we not seen? The same resurrection power that raised Christ from the dead is alive and active in us today!
That resurrection power isn’t just a spiritual concept with no earthly significance. It quickens our mortal body (Romans 8:11) and overcomes every trace of sickness the enemy tries to forge on our bodies. How can we let fear rule our conscience, knowing that the author and the finisher of our faith, Jesus Christ died for us to live a healthy, wholesome life?
Was Jesus killed for my sins?
This is where most of us go wrong. Jesus Christ of Nazareth wasn’t a martyr. He is the son of God, who willingly gave His life for us (John 10:18) – so that we could be called sons of God, be co-heirs with Him, and have the same quality of life that He has—bringing down the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. His life is a gift to us- it’s what promises our health and healing. Knowing the work of Christ on the cross and what it means for you is the key to claiming your gift of life in Him.
I am even more appalled when I hear people say that we must suffer as Christ did on the cross. Many of us even equate our sicknesses to a foretaste of what Christ had to go through on the cross. Where is that leaving us with the finished work? Can any of us be our own Savior? None of us are worthy, my friends, not even one (Romans 3:10).
Am I being punished for my sins?
Meditate on this verse-
But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed .
(Isaiah 53:5)
God never punishes people through diseases. COVID-19 never originated in heaven-it came from the pit of hell. Death was never God’s plan of action. Man, corrupted by sin, invited death into his life- starting from the very first man, Adam.
There is nothing heavenly about death and decay. Else Christ would never have been resurrected. Jesus is the prototype of every new creation, born again in Christ. As He is, so are we in this world. At times, we may endanger our mortal bodies by our own foolishness- but that should never be equated to God’s wrath on our mistakes. As a born-again child of God, you are the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ (2 Corin 5:21)- the same righteousness that allows you to boldly enter the throne room of Grace that we may obtain mercy in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). We have health and healing in Jesus Christ- His incorruptible, imperishable, everlasting, rejuvenating life.
As He is, so are we in this world. (1John 4:17). Jesus is our health, our healing.
